AFLCA Certification Exams
Are all AFLCA exams online?
- Yes. To increase access across Alberta and the NWT, the AFLCA has partnered with Yardstick Measure to deliver online exams. Yardstick Measure is a leader in professional, secure online testing. Delivering assessment tools since 2002, they are Canada’s first professional online testing company.
What format are the exams?
- All AFLCA exams are multiple choice.
How many questions are on exams?
- Exercise Theory 60 | Group exercise 40–60 | Certified Personal Fitness Trainer 80
AFLCA Certification Exam Process
What grade do I need to pass?
- A minimum 80% is required to pass all AFLCA exams
Can I write the exam more than once?
- You can write a supplemental exam if you don’t achieve 80%, exam fees apply for each attempt.
How long do I have to write my exam?
- Exercise Theory 60 minutes | Group Exercise 60 minutes | Certified Personal Fitness Trainer 120 minutes
What does the exam day process look like?

How soon can I write my exam after I complete the online registration scheduling?
- All bookings (new or transferred) can be made 72 hours in advance.
When will I receive my exam results?
- You will receive your results immediately after completing your exam.
I need to cancel my exam registration. What do I do?
- Exam cancellations are accepted up until 48 hours before the exam otherwise it’s forfeited. To cancel, log into your candidate profile on Measure view Exam Lists and select the option Withdrawal.
How can I change my exam registration date and time?
- In order to change, log into your candidate profile on Measure, view Exam Lists and select the option to Transfer. Scheduled exams can be changed up until 48 hours before the exam.
If I need to reschedule, does my online exam expire after a certain period of time?
- Your online exam is granted to you during your certification timeline. If you go past this date, booking and exam fees are forfeited.
If I’m unable to attend my scheduled exam, can I receive a refund for my exam registration?
- Unfortunately, we do not issue refunds for AFLCA exams. If there are special circumstances you’d like us to consider and review, email info@provincialfitnessunit.ca.

My computer system doesn’t pass their requirements. What can I do?
- The AFLCA is committed to access, and will make arrangements for you. Please send an email to info@provincialfitnessunit.ca and we will arrange an independent exam sitting for you. Additional fees apply.
