Perspectives in Exercise Health and Fitness brings together the fitness community to learn the latest in fitness-related research, industry best practices and practical workshops. At each conference, we present awards to the best of the best in exercise science and practice.

Nominate an outstanding peer. Recognizing just how high the bar is in Alberta’s exercise and fitness community acknowledges the achievement of outstanding individuals and affirms the outstanding service and professionalism of our industry. If you know of someone who deserves recognition for their efforts, forward their nomination.

The Bako award recognizes outstanding leadership in memory of the dedication, support and leadership which Dr. Erwin E. Bako, a former physician and member of the board for the Alberta Medical Association in the 70’s and 80’s, brought to the profession of fitness and lifestyle consulting.

To be qualified nominees must be:
– be currently working in the exercise, physical activity and fitness industry in Alberta
– demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment to professionalism

Provide a statement of support (maximum 750 words) for your nomination choice. A minimum of two supporting letters (from colleagues, clients, employers, etc.) must be provided with the nomination. The award will be presented at the Perspectives in Exercise Health and Fitness Conference. Include a brief cv of the nominee, and outline your relationship to the nominee with your submission.

What are examples of outstanding leadership? Meaningful contributions to the exercise profession through activities such as writing, research, creation of new programs or outstanding level of service in the field; practicing exercise prescription to the highest possible standard.
Past recipients of the Bako Award include Art Quinney, Gord Bell, Don Watts and Dru Marshall.
