Alberta Sport Plan Needs YOU to Review

May 6, 2014

Thousands of Albertans have shared their passion, opinions and ideas on how to maximize the potential of amateur sport to build character, foster civic pride and make us healthier. What we heard from you was used to develop the draft Alberta Sport Plan. We are seeking comment on the draft plan until May 30, 2014.

The draft Alberta Sport Plan represents a new framework for sport which, once finalized, will guide government and the sector for the next decade. The plan aims to promote excellence in amateur sport and increase participation in sport across all ages, abilities and backgrounds. It emphasises the full spectrum of athlete development and proposes we all work together to achieve the following vision:

Alberta is a national leader in sport with a coordinated and adaptive system which promotes excellence and fosters opportunities for life-long participation.

Seeking feedback on the draft plan is the next step in a consultation that started in the fall of 2013. More than 4,800 Albertans responded to an online survey asking them to prioritize six areas of sport. We also consulted with several hundred stakeholders in the sport sector across the province.

The information collected during these consultations can be found in What We Heard: The Alberta Sport Framework Public Consultations. This information was used to develop Going the Distance:The Alberta Sport Plan 2014–2024. Both documents, related videos and an online survey are available at www.AlbertaSportPlan.ca

This is your opportunity to review the plan and ensure it accurately reflects your feedback. Please share this information with your members and encourage them to participate in the survey. To help spread the word, please visit this link to our online bulletin .
