Canadians less fit than in 1981: Stats Canada Health Measures Survey

The health benefits of being physically fit are widely acknowledged. Estimates of BMI reveal that Canadians have become progressively heavier over the last 25 years. A recent comprehensive survey of Canadians by statistics Canada measures the many components of fitness in Canadian children and adults, and compares them to estimates from 1981.

The results measure morphological fitness, muscular fitness, motor fitness and metabolic fitness to create a comprehensive picture of the health and fitness of Canadians. Results show that Canadians are less fit than they were in 1981.
