60,000 Get Active on Winter Walk Day

Approximately 60,000 Albertans took to the sidewalks, trails, and open spaces under a predominantly blue Alberta sky to walk a combined total of 1.3 million minutes on February 10, 2010 in celebration of Alberta’s Winter Walk Day.

Participation came from all across the province: from playschools, seniors groups, workplaces, schools, colleges and universities, including Spirit River in the north to Lethbridge in the south.

Be Fit for Life supported, organized and promoted multiple activities across the province at their locations on nine college and university campuses; encouraging workplace lunchtime walks, evening walks for the public; schools across the province also took part, getting children, students and parents out to enjoy treasure hunts, walking and other activities in the beautiful Alberta sunshine.

Congratulations to all Alberta Active Living Partners for there great work in raising awareness for active living in Alberta. And, an even bigger congratulations to the 60,000 Albertans who participated in this event!

Watch for details about the Active Living Challenge day coming up in May!
