Shift Work, Confidence and Health

Shift work has a negative effect on health. It can lead to poor health choices, a greater risk of obesity, smoking and mental health problems. Maintaining an active lifestyle reduces the risk of chronic disease and stress, plus can lead to improved job performance.

Education about appropriate programs, how to use equipment and time management can boost the confidence level and ability of shift workers to maintain and stick to an active lifestyle and health program.

Finding fitness centres with hours that suit their schedules, making a record of workout times in their daytimer, smaller bouts of physical activity and the help of a trainer or attending a group class are ways to reverse the negative health effects of shift work.
