AFLCA Designation Course Descriptions
Choreography
A minimum 8 hour course. Topics include: history of floor-based group exercise, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership and choreography; movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
*May include, but not limited to high, low, moderate impact, combination, cardio kickboxing.
Step
A minimum 8 hour course. Topics include: history of step training, research and safety guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership and choreography design; step directional approaches, movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
Cycle
A minimum 8 hour course. Topics include: bike set-up and safety, pedaling, cadence, posture, class structure and content; class components, music, leadership and choreography design; movement combinations, cardiovascular conditioning, instruction and cueing.
Portable Exercise Equipment
A minimum 8 hour course. Topics include: use of portable equipment, evolution, research and guidelines, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership and choreography; equipment exercises, movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
*May include, but not limited to the following: free weights, body bars/barbells, stability balls, tubing/resist-a-bands, BOSU, steps, medicine balls, foam rollers.
Mind/Body
A minimum 16 hour course. Topics include: history and evolution, anatomy, alignment and safety, class structure and content; planning, class components, use of music, leadership and choreography; movement combinations, instruction and cueing.
*May include, but not limited to the following mind/body disciplines: yoga, pilates, tai chi, nia

AFLCA Trainers are qualified to run AFLCA courses. Trainers and Assistant Trainers provide Practical Assessments and CPFT Examiners administer Practical Exams.
