Weather Makes a Difference
Adapted From the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute
Regardless of our age, adverse weather impacts the amount of physical activity we get on any particular day. Studies indicate that children and adults are more active on warmer days and on days when it is not raining or snowing.
In climates such as ours, the impact of severe weather can be mitigated by ensuring that indoor alternatives are available. Policies, like ensuring sidewalks are cleared, and promotion of outdoor mass participation events, such as Alberta’s Winter Walk Day, and Summer Active Challenge are important to maintain the opportunity and the awareness about staying active all year long!
