Position Title: Certified Exercise Physiologist – Health Moves Fitness program
Location: Saville Community Sport Centre
Salary: $32–36.00/hour (*based on related education and experience)
Position Start date: Ongoing

Business Unit Information: Campus and Community Recreation is a unit within the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. Our primary focus is to provide meaningful, affordable recreational and wellness related experiences to the students, staff and public within the campus and surrounding communities.

The Health Moves Fitness program is aimed at providing quality exercise instruction and support to individuals that have one or multiple chronic health considerations. This program is designed to be a safe place for people who have been directed to exercise under supervision or are in need of a supportive environment to make lasting lifestyle changes to better their health. Clients may be referred from rehabilitation programs, their Physician, or participants may search out the programs on their own.

The program is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 930–11 am and incorporates strength, aerobics, flexibility, and balance training as well as education for the participants to improve their health status.

Responsibilities:
As part of our Exercise Professional team you would be responsible for providing instruction to groups from 2 -10. Our Exercise Professional are dedicated, educated individuals who bring their enthusiasm and love of health and fitness to the participants in their classes.

Specific duties include:
● Provision of Fitness Services in the Fitness and Lifestyle Centre and/or the Saville Fitness Centre
● Design individualized and small group programs for clients
● Monitor, supervise/facilitate the client programs
● Maintain client records
● Respond to client questions and concerns
● Refer client back to Physician when necessary.
● Submit invoices for payment

Qualifications:

CSEP – Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) or equivalent
Current First Aid/CPR
Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology or Human Kinetics

Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication skills, and conduct self in a professional manner. Experience or knowledge of common chronic health conditions and exercise prescription would be an asset. Experience working with participants who are directed to exercise under supervision would be an asset. All fitness leaders operate as Independent Contractors.
