Classification: Full-Time with Flexible evenings and Weekends

Job Responsibilities:

Human Resources
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, supervise and manage all full-time and part-time staff and volunteers within program areas
• Complete hiring paperwork and other related documents in a timely manner.
• Provide and schedule new staff and volunteer orientations as required.
• Ensure staff and volunteers develop SMART goals within first month of performance.
• Performance, management, evaluation and recognition of staff
• Complete staff and volunteer scheduling with support from the coordinator.
• Ensure that the volunteers act in a supportive and facilitative role to the staff.
• Ensure that staff and volunteers are trained and certified in YMCA Level 1 Individual Conditioning so that they can start a member on a piece of equipment.
• Ensure that staff and volunteers are annually trained in Child Behavior Management and Abuse policy.
• Maintain up to date tracking of certificates and awards of staff.
• Ensure that staff and volunteers understand and follow non-negotiable standards at all times. Relationship development: Role model recruitment and retention of volunteers and members.

Program and Service Delivery
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the individual conditioning area.
• Coordinate and supervise the operations of all programs and services for participants at the quality and service levels outlined.
• Manage and report program statistics.
• Maximize program registration to ensure program targets are reached.
• Implement minimum attendance rates for class cancellations.
• Implement, administer, evaluate and instruct in Adult Fitness and Lifestyle programs
• Evaluation and analysis of program audits, competitor’s services, member feedback, comment cards, statistics and conversations with members to maintain a high level of member satisfaction throughout programming.
• Follow the audit process for program quality assurance.

Health and Safety
• Comply with the Centre’s emergency response system and procedures
• Staff and volunteers are trained in the centre’s emergency response system and procedures including fire evacuation, missing child and emergency first aid situations.
• Participate in an annual review of emergency procedures.
• Act as first responder to health and safety issues.
• Member etiquette is monitored and reinforced by YMCA staff and volunteers.
• Take necessary action to ensure a safe environment for all members, volunteers.
• Risk Management: Ensure that staff and volunteers inspect and monitor equipment daily and complete any maintenance and cleaning checklist duties.

Qualifications: Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration
YMCA Individual Conditioning Level I & II and/or AFLCA Resistance Training Certification.
• Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Child Welfare & Police Security Clearance
WHMIS Certification
• Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Certification
• Pre-requisites considered an asset: Canadian Society for Exercise Physiologist: Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or Canadian Society for Exercise Physiologist: Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP- CPT).
• University Degree or Diploma in Recreation, Physical Education or Personal Fitness Training (PFT) or related area.

Experience
• 3 or more years of experience.
• Experience in recruitment (staff and volunteers).
• Experience as a program supervisor an asset.
• Leading and coaching staff teams.
• Implementing recreation programs.
