Get AFLCA Certified

The AFLCA offers certification in the following areas of group exercise leadership: Aquatic Exercise, Resistance Training, Fitness for the Older Adult, Group Exercise Leader, (areas of designation are Portable equipment, Choreography, Step, Cycling, Mind/body).
If you have experience and education, you may challenge into the AFLCA
Step 1: AFLCA Exercise Theory course (minimum 24 hour course)
Step 2: AFLCA Exercise Theory Exam
Step 3: AFLCA Specialty Course: Resistance Training Courses, Group Exercise Fundamentals and Designation Courses, Aquatic Courses, Older Adult Fitness Courses
note: if you are taking the group exercise route, group fundamentals and a designation course are required
Step 4: AFLCA Specialty Exam
Step 5: Practical Assessment completed by an AFLCA Trainer
Step 6:Submit Certification Documents

- Resistance Training Certification Checklist
- Aquatic Exercise Certification Checklist
- Older Adult Certification Checklist
- CPR (AFLCA leaders must hold a current Heart Saver CPR-Level A, (some facilities may require a higher level). CPR MUST BE RENEWED ANNUALLY!

Agency Subsidies Available!
Let your facility manager know there is funding available to get you certified. To support province-wide training, the AFLCA provides a subsidy program for agencies that offer certification courses.
