Core Competencies for CSEP-CPT™
Core Competencies
Candidates for the CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer™ accreditation are required to take a series of introductory courses that meet each of the following seven core competency areas: (these are not course titles).
- Personal and Lifestyle Characteristics of Clients
- Motivational Techniques to Increase Client Adherence
- Basic Theory and Methods of Health-Related Physical Fitness Appraisal
- Basic Physical Activity/Exercise Prescription and Design
- Demonstration, Client Observation and Exercise Modification
- Safety, Injury Prevention and Emergency Procedures
- Documentation, Administration and Professionalism
Plus course work is required in the following areas: Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Health Promotion and Human Behavior, Fitness, Wellness and Communication and Counseling.
