Core Competencies for CSEP-CPT™
Core Competencies
Candidates for the CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer™ accreditation are required to complete a series of introductory courses that meet each of the following seven core competency areas: (these are not course titles).
- Personal and Lifestyle Characteristics of Clients
- Motivational Techniques to Increase Client Adherence
- Basic Theory and Methods of Health-Related Physical Fitness Appraisal
- Basic Physical Activity/Exercise Prescription and Design
- Demonstration, Client Observation and Exercise Modification
- Safety, Injury Prevention and Emergency Procedures
- Documentation, Administration and Professionalism
In addition; university/college course work is required in ALL of the following areas:
- Human Anatomy
- Human Physiology
- Exercise Physiology, Health and Performance
- Wellness, Health Promotion and Human Behavior
- Tests & Measurements, Communication and Counseling
Please note – completion of a (minimum) 2 year Diploma in health/exercise related sciences is required to complete the CSEP Certified Personal Trainer™
