Challenge into the AFLCA

You may have the qualifications to challenge some of the requirements for AFLCA certification. Challenging allows you to bypass one or more AFLCA certification courses and move directly to writing the exam.

  • If your qualifications are not listed below, pre-approval is required prior to registering for an online challenge exam. Please complete the Exam Challenge Education Review form to have your qualifications reviewed.

AFLCA Exam Challenge Qualifications

Completed AFLCA Exercise Theory course (1 year post course) Course reference number
Completed Anatomy & Physiology courses – accredited college/university Copy of official or unofficial transcripts
Expired AFLCA or NFLA certifications Copy of expired certificate

GROUP EXERCISE ELIGIBILITY REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Group, Resistance, Older Adult & Aquatic Exercise
Completion of AFLCA Specialty course – valid 4 years from the course Course reference number
Completed course work at a recognized college/university Pre-approval required
Expired AFLCA or NFLA certifications Copy of expired certificate
Other Current or Expired Certifications Pre-approval required
PERSONAL TRAINER ELIGIBILITY REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Recertified AFLCA Resistance Exercise Leader Copy of certification certificate
Completed prerequisite course work at a recognized college/university Copy of official or unofficial transcripts
Expired AFLCA Personal Trainer Certification Copy of expired certificate
Expired NFLA certification Pre-approval required
Other Current or Expired Certifications Pre-approval required

Recognition of NFLA Accredited Professionals

NFLA accreditations are recognized by the AFLCA, and currently certified NFLA exercise professionals can transfer into the AFLCA with NO exams required. Such recognition and transfer is available to current Group Exercise, Aquatic Exercise, Fitness for the Older Adult and Resistance Training leaders.
