Be Fit For Life Centre staff are certified and experienced in developing creative programs to incorporate physical activity into the classroom. Here is a list of programs for young children from Kindergarten to Grade Six.

Yoga Techniques for the Classroom – NEW! Grade 1 – 6

Are you looking for a way to incorporate Yoga into your classroom? The new Yoga Techniques for the Classroom Program includes both PowerPoint and Yoga Cards to help bring energy, balance, calm and relaxation to staff and students. This session includes yoga techniques, games, discussion, and brainstorming.

Resistance Bands for Elementary Students – NEW!

K – Grade 6

Resistance bands make great choices for exercise equipment! They are inexpensive, portable and surprisingly versatile. From the gym to the classroom, be creative and plan active learning activities that incorporate resistance bands in a variety of subject areas. Use resistance bands in a SHAPES unit in math, a SUPERHERO theme in language arts, or a SPIDER theme in science. This session can be offered as a professional development session for teachers as well as an in-school session for students.

Active Living Challenge – Active Body Adventure

Grade 4 – 6

Fun, interactive, and motivating, the Active Living Challenge – Active Body Adventure focuses on the importance for grades 4 to 6 students to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

In its four components, the Active Body Adventure (ABA) demonstrates to students the concepts of cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and muscular endurance (strength), as well as exploring the benefits of maintaining these areas of personal fitness.

This program may be used support student learning in your delivery of Alberta’s Physical Education Curriculum.

Students will experience the Active Body Adventure and learn how THEY CAN make their body move!

  • Hold Your Core – I can stay off the floor!

Active Aliens

Grade K – 3

An ‘active’ presentation for Elementary School students to promote the concepts of active living in a fun and interactive manner that is out of this world!

Students will participate in a variety of activities, selected to be age appropriate and in the “alien” theme. Teachers will be provided with follow-up activities to keep promoting active living in the school.


Grades K – 3 will participate in a variety of active living games learning that:

  • Active Living is good for you!
  • Active Living is fun for you!
  • Active Living is up to you

Kids Come Alive (Lakeland College, Vermillion)

Grades K – 6

Using fun games and interactive activities, students get to explore various physical activities in a supportive, cooperative environment. Students enjoy physical activity and teachers get a few more ideas for future use!

In 1991, the Lakeland College Be Fit For Life Centre, located in Vermilion, Alberta started a program called “Kids Come Alive.” It includes a series of cooperative games that focus on fitness while still targeting school-aged children from kindergarten to grade six. The program includes games in:

  • Music and Movement
  • Energizers
  • Warm-up Activities
  • Cooperative Games
  • Other Games
  • Obstacle Courses and Relays
  • Cool-down Activities

Winter Walk Day is the Active Living Challenge for the winter. Get your school involved! Across Alberta teachers and schools are getting their mittens and scarves ready to walk for a half hour on February 11, 2010.
