Heather Macdonald Webber Memorial Award for AFLCA Exercise Leadership Excellence

The Heather Macdonald Webber AFLCA Memorial Award recognizes a current AFLCA leader who demonstrates strong leadership skills through community and industry involvement. The nominee will be an AFLCA leader who motivates others through safe, effective and engaging exercise programs. The nominee demonstrates a continued commitment to education and certification.

Heather became an AFLCA Trainer in the areas of Aquatic and Group Exercise in the 1990s. She was a member of the AFLCA Board of Directors from 1992–2000 and served as President from 1998–2000. She believed in helping others achieve their goals through education and self improvement. Heather received the Mall Peepre Fitness Leadership Award in 2001 in recognition of her contributions to the industry.

Nominations must include an essay (750 words or less) that describes the nominee’s exercise leadership attributes and addresses the following:

1. Describe the scope and duration of the nominee’s role within the AFLCA.
2. Describe how the nominee’s efforts influence participants to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
3. Describe how the nominee supports the vision and mission of the AFLCA.
4. Describe how the nominee demonstrates a commitment to further education.

Don Watts Memorial Award for AFLCA Training Excellence

The Don Watts Memorial Award recognizes a current AFLCA Trainer or AFLCA Assistant Trainer who consistently inspires AFLCA leaders through versatility in fitness and wellness facilitation. The nominee is a mentor to upcoming and long standing AFLCA leaders and demonstrates a commitment to the AFLCA vision and mission.

Among his many accomplishments, Don helped mold the AFLCA into what it is today. Don’s contributions included Board of Directors membership, AFLCA Presidency, and the creation of the AFLCA Trainer of Leaders program. Don was an indispensable AFLCA Master Trainer and has made the AFLCA a formidable and nationally recognized accreditation organization in the health and fitness industry.

Nominations must include an essay (750 words or less) that describes the nominee’s leadership attributes and addresses the following:

1. Describe the scope and duration of this nominee’s role within the AFLCA.
2. Describe how the nominee’s attributes and efforts support and inspire others to become and remain AFLCA certified.
3. Describe how the nominee supports the vision and mission of the AFLCA.
4. Describe how the nominee demonstrates excellence in facilitation.

Application deadline: March 31, 2017

Award recipients will receive a Fit Rendezvous Conference registration, a plaque, and be featured in the Fitness Informer.
